It's just if it's Spam, they probably will never be back to even read any comments. Most Spammers come, post their junk and leave. As soon as any Mod sees the report, we take care of the thread/post.
I think it's also worth noting here that the "report this post" function should be used liberally.
If you see a post that is in the least bit questionable, either from a spam perspective, or even just not in keeping with the Community Guidelines, please don't hesitate to report it. We don't get annoyed at people reporting posts in the slightest.

For some it is...
That doesn't make it right.
First of all, I don't agree with the fact that just anyone, even the ones not participating in a certain thread can come along and throw around rep points.
I believe if any negative rep is to be given, it should be given by the OP, or someone who fell victim to some kind of verbal abuse.
The rest of the users have nothing to do with giving negative rep to someone who didn't even direct their post to them/him.
Unfortunately that would apply to positive rep too, so be it.
I'm just giving my opinion, not trying to change things... again, its just points.

Agreed.
How about only folks with a certain high rep level can give/take rep points? They are proven good guys and this gives the rest of us a motivation to behave.

That's already how it works. If you have no rep or negative rep, you can leave comments, but they don't count for anything positive or negative (i.e. gray dots).
