Your going to have to bite the bullet....Either stay with FCE or ( in my opinion ) go with FCP X. It sounds as though you have looked at iMovie...Not sure what you need specifically that iMovie won't...

Purchase the exact same HD... (likely Hitachi for that model) and the sensor will not be an issue. I would check OWC for exact specifics.

Just use iMovie...load your stills...set the...

Just use iMovie...load your stills...set the minimum amount of time possible, render. Reload the finished movie back into iMovie as a new project and speed the time up a hair....
