Hope there wasn't anything important in that folder. Next time make the folder someplace like Documents and leave it there.
Moving it shouldn't break the alias but deleting it sure will. Good luck.

The reason WMP can play WMV and AVI is because they're basically Windows formats.
Quicktime plays .mov among others which are Macintosh formats. And of course .flv is Flash, which Quicktime can play...
