I am planning to upgrade my MB Pro's RAM. I have a MA896LL/A (2007) 15" MacBook PRO.

Should I go with 2x2gb or 4gb in one module in case I later consider adding 2gb more?

I think I will try encoding my files to ProRES first before I plan buying FW external HDD and RAM. Just to see does it get any better.
