It sounds like downloading/installing/running Onyx (excellent maintenance software) may help with a lot of your issues. It surely couldn't hurt and Onyx comes highly recommended on this forum....

I can vouch for Ghostery and Adblocker. I still run Snow Leopard (10.6.8) and those apps install and work just fine. I can't speak for AdwareMedic simply because I haven't downloaded/tried it.
