I would only buy the G5 if you were rendering video where being up to date isn't needed. The new Mini should run circles around the G5 when it comes to the latest Creative Suite apps.

I believe you go to your mounted TC disk and erase the sparsebundle inside. Tell it to back up once again and it'll start with a new backup. :)

Try compressing the files into a format like .zip to transfer. OSX won't look inside that way.

AHT is with no OS needed at all, ASD requires low level OS to run some of its tests. They're needed to troubleshoot different issues - you have the correct version of ASD, go for it!

"fine" is subjective - the issues the OP is having can be due to excessive paging. Sure OSX can run on less, but not optimally.

XP can run on 128GB of RAM and 1.5GB of HD space, but would you? ;)...
