Importing AVI movie to iMovie

After converting a video from a VDR Panasonic with Streamclip and QuickTime to AVI, I imported it into iPhoto where it ended up in the Event section and the EDIT-Split Scenes feature is grayed out....

How do I transfer Picasa to an external drive?

For lack of a certain feature in iPhoto I had to install Picasa for Mac which means I have some 50,000 photos because I download them to my system for both apps.
