TechTool Deluxe is a light version of TechTool Pro. If it has the option to do a surface scan, that will be definitive as to the health of the drive. It takes quite a bit of time to run it though.

No prob. You may want to look at running Windows in a virtual machine instead of Boot Camp if your needs are very limited. VirtualBox is free and works well enough in such cases.
