If you are using 10.5.1, then this is a known issue and you also will have about 10 SUIDs which remain. Hopefully it will be fixed in 10.5.2.

It does take ages with Disk Utility though.

Are you connecting through a proxy server? If so, then this is a known issue with Leopard and any app wanting to have access to the internet will close down (except FireFox :) )

I have both options on mine ie BootCamp and Parallels, and my advice would be, if you have limited RAM, use BC, as my MB struggles with Parallels and limited RAM (preinstalled 512MB), but BC works...
