I happened to be browsing through my network settings and noticed a connection listed that I never saw before. The computer is a Macbook and doesn't even have anything plugged into the Ethernet port....

If your external is Firewire, you're good to go....

If your external is Firewire, you're good to go. You need to be able to boot off it. Carbon Copy cloner will also get the job done.

isquint may. I have isquint, but no ASF files to check.

You can try Handbrake as well, though ffmpegX is your safest bet.
