Check the back of the new drive to see if there are little jumpers in and copy the setup off the original HD. See if that helps. Also make sure you insert the ide cable correctly and power cable also...

I am not to sure but I think when XP to Win7 changed. Files data also changed eg doc to docx in format in other words dedicated to the OS software. I could way off beam here.

Have a look in App stores there are data recovery. Technically the files are not deleted until you do a full format on the hard drive.

iTunes will create it own folder for music movies etc unless you tell where to store them. Check for Music folder or iTunes folder on C drive then you can if in administrator mode transfer the lot...
