Problems downloading after changing 'User' location

Hi all,

I've recently installed an SSD to run OS X and applications from. As it's only 60GB, I've changed my 'User' location (documents, downloads etc.) to an external HDD.

Thanks for the reply. Is this the only solution? Like I said, all the cabling is hidden away so disconnecting the HD is a bit of a pain. It would be nice for Time Machine to be a completely 'silent'...
