Try this. In Finder select image view. Amend size of icon to suit. Then reduce the width of the window to ONE ICON WIDE. Now use UP and DOWN buttons to move through the folder.

For files other than photos I use Araxis...

For files other than photos I use Araxis Duplicate File Finder. It's about 10 but will only find exact duplicates. It works on photos as well but still only finds exact copies.

Brilliant (almost). That works but it resets itself each time you load iPhoto, necessitating repeating the operation which is a trifle annoying - but hey way better than having those boxes showing...
