Boot Camp is made by Apple, so I doubt that there's any risk in using that.

However, if you want to run both Windows and Mac at the same time, you'll want to get a virtual machine (VM)...

Record the music in GarageBand, export it to iTunes, record the video, and then in iMovie add the song as soundtrack, or sound effects, or whatever it is. That's the only way I can think of to do it....

Boot up and hold X, that should force it to boot up into OS X even if Windows XP takes up the entire HDD. Then you can shrink the XP partition and set the default startup disk to the OS X partition.

I don't know of any, but I would be interested to know of software like what I think you're describing so I can play music into my MBP's microphone and have it saved as a MIDI file or something.

If you can't find updates to the apps that don't work on SL, I don't see why you couldn't go back to Leopard. But I haven't had any problems (except with 3rd-party 32-bit screen savers) with SL.
