macbook speakers

okay so i have this issue where they wont seem to work, i try to change the volume but i get like a circle with a line through it, it works fine with speakers and headphones but not when i unplug it...

linking two Macs

so i've had my macbook for a while now but my brother just got a new imac

we want to link them up so i can access his music and vice versa, can i do this wirelessly without an airport extreme...
