Why aren't my drives on the desktop?

After installing SL, I noticed a weird thing:

Both of my firewire drives show up, but my "Macintosh HD" is nowhere to be found on my desktop.

Did they get rid of this in SL? (I can still see it...

I thought the same thing about my 1st HP computer in 1998. It was a P2 333MHz with an 8GB HDD. At the time, I thought I would never fill 8GB. Now, I have ~1.5TB.
