I don't know. I have always been able to do it that way. Are you importing the CD as an Aiff? How familiar are you with FCP? What is the process you've been trying. Did this start with iTunes8?

your raw footage should be on your HD somewhere. Find it, and with it open in quicktime press "apple" + "I". This will open a window with your footage info. What does it say for codecs?
