Admittedly I've only owned Macs for 8 years now, but every Mac I've bought is still in service. Though, I haven't had TM's luck. Replaced 2 dead/failing HDs in 8 years.

Have you checked for bent or missing pins in the battery connector?...

1) Guarantee you weren't plugged into A/C power source
2) Provide direct ground from your body to your Mac
