Recommendations please

I need to get a an external dvd/cd burner-player for my Mini-mac. I'll be dumping files to a dvd or cd as well as viewing the cds & dvds I have now.
Not looking for top of the line...just a decent...

Can the Apple keyboard be opened?

I thought it might be advantageous to clean out any dirt/ dust that might have gotten in.
I have the Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad (full-size, thin, aluminum Model MB110LL).

Does anyone know?

I know I can set the computer to "sleep" after a certain amount of time has passed.
Is there a way to set it to "shut down" after a period of time?
