Alternative solution

You could also try using Psst (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/16780). It turns off (or turns down) the startup sound. I use it and it works great.

Yeah, I've also looked at the tech specs page of each model. They use the same RAM, which is good because that means I got a great deal on 2GB of RAM for my new MacBook that's on it's way.
