Home Mac - setup for children - SSL error in browser

We are trying to setup our old iMac20 2 GHz Intel Core Duo (circa 2005) for our 2 children to use (aged 6 and 7). It runs 10.6.8 with all updates applied

All they really do are play games on web...

I have proved that the backup of the iMac is bootable...I proved that by attaching it to a Macbook which happily booted from it....and on the other side of the coin when I attached the backup drive...
