I would like to turn off just one of my two external displays on a macbook pro. Is this possible within the interface, rather than unplugging wires?

To answer my own question, yes, it works. No daisy chain required. Thunderbolt display in my thunderbolt port and HDTV in my HDMI port on a 13" macbook pro retina display.
