Now I can imagine if they thought some person from a long time ago was a myth, but it hasn't even been 50 years since the man died and already they think he wasn't real? Christ, people are stupid.

Wow I'm pretty shocked! As a Brit I see alot about the big guy on TV. On the BBC there has been countless programs about him and his life. I can guarantee that if you go over to the history channel there will something on Winston multiple times a week. I remember i used to watch Churchill's bodyguard on history channel they would repeat it all the time. If i was to go out in to my local high street and ask the same survey im sure i would get a more accurate answer. It's a awful shame that people think he is made up particularly since all Brits learn about WW2 in school at some point.
Although if i was asked about the 12th century English king Richard the Lionheart i would probably say he was a myth probably because of the name reminds me of one of them old stories.
Oh well i guess there's just a lot of morons in the UK.

Churchill lived while some people today are still alive. I guess that part freaks me out. In some ways, as he was a great man, the fact people think he is a myth may be flattering in some way. His accomplishments as one of the best leaders of the free world, in the darkest hours of democratic history to some people may be unbelievable. To lead the world against Hilter, through the bombing raids of London, and come out on top, is incredible.

Interesting article, what are the age of the people polled ?

UKTV Gold ran the survey. UKTV mainly show reruns of old drama and comedys mostly from the 80’s and 90’s. So I would have thought that the audience would be slightly older.

I wonder how americans would do if a survey was ran about historical figures of our history like, Washington (a lot of stories about him, people may think hes a fictional character) or Roosevelt.
