Apparently so. Such an odd time to do maintenance...right in the middle of the day. Usually you'd do that at 2:30AM, not 2:30PM.

Maybe they just wanted to watch everyone jump to conclusions.

I know that the .Mac service was down for about 3 to 4 hours. Both being offline isn't even related though, I betcha.

I often wonder the same thing.

1. Apple takes the store down in the middle of the day for some routine maintenance.

2. A pants-wetting Fanboy sees this and trumpets, "oooohhh... OMGR0x0rZBBQ!!!!111!... LOOK!!! The Apple Online Store is down!!!11!..... that must mean new Macbooks/iPods/iMacs....etc!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111!!!"

3. Apple then puts up some minor maintenance to the site and has a hearty guffaw at the expense of the aforementioned.

....hey, maybe it does happen just like that.
