What's a Genius Bar charge to swap an HDD into a MBP. Also, will they do it with a drive you bring in?

I think the HD is a user-changeable part, iFixit have some great instructions. Or look on the Apple support website.

Not on the MBP. It's a warranty voider as you have to take off the top plate/keyboard and then remove a bunch of other parts just to get to it. Looks like I could do it, but they would know if a 7200 rpm 200gb WD hdd was in my MBP

Not sure what they charge, but try taking it to a AASP in your city. They'll be able to swap it for you. Labour time shouldn't be more than 30min.

Apple will not install a new hard disk or any other hardware on your computer for you. If they did, I'd have a 250GB disk in my MBP right now. The only thing you can change out without voiding the warranty is the memory.

That's dumb. I think I'll wait until the end of April and do it myself.

Talk about not being customer oriented. If I ran a company that did customer services like apple, I'd jump on the chance to install a drive. Probably make $50-$100 on just labor.

Did you not read my post? Don't take it to an Apple store. Take it to a Authorized Service Provider. They will do the install for you.
