Weee... Linux Via Windows Via Parallels...

I brought out an old copy of Linux Mandrake (Mandriva) 9.1 and installed it on my PC via Parallels today. Fun fun fun... much easier than I remember Linux being... maybe my Mac experience is paying off...

Good luck with Mandrake - a great distro. I used 10.1 for some time and it was excellent.

I've got to figure out a few things... hopefully Ubuntu will be good, as I'm downloading it right now.

Ubuntu is one of my faves.. Check out Xandros Open-Circulation version. It's pretty good too. I use it on my file/ftp server.

I might give that a shot. Right now I'm installing Ubuntu 1, downloaded from Ubuntu direct. So far, so good... everything is nice and smooth.

Ubuntu 6.06 (Dapper Drake) is the one to get. It is really very good. I have used Linux since 2004, and Ubuntu 6.06 is one of the smoothest, best thought through Linux distros I have ever seen. Unfortunately you don't get KDE, my personal favorite Linux desktop, but it is available as the Kubuntu variant.

I would recommend doing that vs. Ubuntu 1.0.. actually, I think the first release was dubbed Ubuntu 4.2 (after Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - 42 is the answer to life the universe and everything).
