Digital Louie is on a distinguished road
Mac Specs: MAC Pro 2.66

I am new to Mac and have a Mac Pro 2.66. Things are going well but every once in a while, my mouse pointer shutters continually and eventually the sound coming from my computer is a reverberating beep. I clicked on a link on Safari (to subscribe to MacLife) and the address bar displayed multiple s's (ssssssssssssssssssss) and continued for awhile. Is this a common problem? It went away but only after I got out of Safari and went back in. I've downloaded some freeware programs, but only from reputable sites recommended by forums such as this one. I'm scratching my head on this one and any help would greatly be appreciated.

Have you tried another browser such as Camino or Firefox? By the way, I had no idea there was a magazine strictly related to Macs, I'm not subscribed

This is a classic symptom of a stuck key, presumably S. I would take the keyboard to Apple and get it swapped out, since it sounds like it's new.

G'day Digital Louie & welcome to Mac-Forums.

The behaviour you're experiencing is definitely not common and sounds quite spooky!

As todd51 suggests, try a different web browser for a while, then if everything seems to be behaving relatively normal you can return to Safari to see if the problem is application specific or not.

Hopefully you can access another site to download Firefox or Camino?
