Well i use both PCS and Macs i love them both. I use my PC running WINXP PRO for gaming and internet. My Ibook running 10.2.8 for Imovie and for word processing, presentations at school. And for the airport, but i may confess i know more about PCS than MACS but i'm doing my best to learn everything i can from both systems.

IMO the main thing to be aware of is the way almost (if not all) all worms do their work by editing the system core (the registry) thus rendering all software, including automatic updates, virus scan, firewall useless. It is a never ending cycle that won't break until windows can run more like Linux

did you know... according to person in another forum (they have mostly pc people and a few mac people... that is before i found this forum), that the new 10.3 just makes computer users more ACCOUNTABLE for their actions than the 9.2? 10.3 just looks to me like a hand extended to pc users with the internet thrown in... i had no idea had not been accountable for my actions since 1985! ![]() :dummy: |

I hate Mac's they are slow, you can't open windows, they lack storage facilities especially if your wanna store more than just data and stuff. Carry anything heavier than the material ripps. I dunno about the crashing effect! I've never keep it on long enough. They makes you sweat like your in a sorer, dam hot in the blazing sun after the showers have ended, seem to come in silly dull colours and made from fragile plastics. Personally I'd use an umbrella when it rains, or just get a little wet.
Hmm... I heard of something called PowerMacintosh. Isn't this the super durable version for tropical storms? They should give them out to people living in the coastal regions of Miami, i hear they in just the right place to test the ultimate Macintosh! ![]()

One day I may well be added to the list of converts, but not quite yet.
Most of you are talking about ignorance of macs. I agree that could be seen as the reason in some cases, however for most people macs are easier to use, they are a lot more logical and a lot simpler - they should prefer the mac due to ignorance and computer illiteracy. In my case it is very different. It is this simplicity that I dislike. For the last 3.5 years I have been working in the IT department of an ad agency. I came in with barely any knowledge and experience with macs, within a month I was hailed as the "macintosh expert" simply because I knew how to fix a few set issues, and had watched a user navigating the machine so when I sat down I used the same shortcuts I saw them use. It made me laugh. Supporting them, all I needed to do was get my head around the logic. Computers (whether they be PC, Mac, Windows, Linux, MacOS etc) are logical devices. They all include a core OS files, they all include the OS files that make the machine usable, they all include external programs, they all include drivers in one form or another (extensions, windows drivers etc), they all include preferences files in their own format (pref files, ini files etc). Once you understand the logic used, you can do anything as they are all a more similar than they first appear. Back then it was OS9. The more I learnt, the more I hated them. Everything was either Disk Doctor & Speed Disk, delete a preferences file, restart to free up consecutive memory, spend a few hours testing extensions until you find the corrupt one, trashing entire directories and replacing them with ones from known good macs, re-imaging the machine. Simple, yet frustrating because all solutions felt like "all or nothing", very little configuration and customisation. Quite often I knew that if it was a PC I could just change a particular setting and it would solve the problem, but on a mac there was no way of doing this, I had to lose all settings. OS10 came out, we stayed away from it for a while. The first machines we got were 10.2. Something so new I had to get my head around and support without ever having seen before. The more I learnt about them, the more I hated them. There were a lot of problems I could not figure out. We had some external people helping us, they could not figure it out either. 10.3 has fixed a lot of these weird problems, it also basically has a better feel to it. OS10.3 is the first OS from Apple that I could actually say I do not hate. In fact, it is the first I could actually say I like. For me, the "switch" did not come from learning more about them, but from them finally improving the product to a level I like (talking software here - other than the CPU the hardware has always been top quality and enviable). I am still a PC user at heart. Heck, my desk that I am typing on right now has two PC's (Windows XP and Windows 2003 Server) and a laptop (Windows XP) on it. But I can confidently say I no longer hate macs with a vengeance. One day I may even learn to love them. |
