Man.....I remember this really cool old computer chess program that I used to play with a old friend of mine on his old mac. Unfortunately, he passed away recently and I really want to find out the name of the program. I remember that he ran it on a beige desktop mac, maybe a Mac II, and that the pieces were red and blue and would have really outrageous animations when the took another piece. Also, some of the pieces were gorillas (litterally). If anyone has any idea what I'm talking about....

anyway, this could also go in one of the software forums, so if one of the mods judges that that's the case, don't bite my head off

thanks

It sounds a lot like battle chess. I don't know of a mac version, but I have a copy for NES. It does have outrageours animations and red and blue pieces though. Hope that helps.

I'll look it up. thanks!

EDIT: just looked it up on wikipedia. it's not it, the chess pieces were more cartoony, and some weren't official stauton chess pieces. but thanks again

arghhh so close....if it helps, it had more of a 2-d look. you saw the board from above, but the pieces were seen from the side

nope it was chess. ummm the playing field was "vertical" i.e. the opponents were "on top" and the player is "on the bottom." and the players were red and blue.

Sorry to bother you guys about it. It just has some sentimental value...

I went to ign.com and searched "chess", looking for mac as the platform. There were a few but none I really recognized. Maybe you should have a look, you may see the name then go "thats it"!
