Hi everyone. Could anyone please help. I'm new to macs, and have purchased an imac, which is a fantastic machine and everything i hoped it would be, except for the inbuilt speakers which are not the best. I've bought some harmon kardon soundsticks, which look really cool, but i'm have problems. First of all the blurb from Harmon says they will plug into any headphone socket (not on my imac they won't). I finally got a small device called an 'imic' which has enabled me to go jackplug-USB and so into my imac. This has given me sound, but volume-wise its a bit feeble. Could anyone tell me if this is due to the amplifier in the imac, or am i doing something fundamentally wrong?

Thanks everyone.

Are the Harmon Kardon speakers powered? When you said "not on my imac they won't", you didn't mean they COULDN'T plug into the socket, as in they couldn't fit? Or were you not getting anything through the speakers?

your imac should have a head phone jack...

Yeah, it's not a hardware issue. The iMac has a headphone jack.

Thanks guys. I've figured it out. Neither the headphone jack or the jackplug next to it would take the jackplug that came with the soundsticks. Thankfully i've now sorted it anyway and they sound great. Thanks Geowge, benzslrpee and Deus ex machina for your help.
Groston.
