Hmm, this is weird. I've noticed that on my iMac G5, the PPC one, the serial number doesn't show. I've looked at system profiler and Onyx, but they both don't show the serial number. There's no really need for it, nothing else is wrong. And I know where to look for the serial number, but just curious why it's like this. I remember being able to see the serial number before reformatting before, but now it's gone. Any ideas? Here's a pic. The white section on the left is system profiler, and the gray part is Onxy. Thanks.

i noticed the same thing on my imac a while back. like you i know where it is on the imac itself so i never tryed ta find out why it was gone. sorry im of no help but i figered id let ya know you arent the only one that this has happened ta.

Revision? Sorry, don't reallly know what that means. Haha. Anyways, I have the iMac G5, the first one I think. Got it around March last year I think.

To get the information you want. Go the the blue apple in the top left corner, under the drop down menu. Select about this mac. Once you have that up, click on the line under Mac OS X. Each time you click on it, it will change. You should see your OS build number, the OS revision level, and your serial number.

That's what they did, rman. Look at Fallooza's screenshot. :cool:

The serial number only appears (there and on other places) as long as you still have the original logicboard.
Once the logicboard has been exchanged, the serial number doesn't appear anymore, but only the text "serial number".

That's cool, I've never noticed that the line was clickable! However, I don't think it will help them. I don't have an iMac, but on my powerbook the serial number is shown to be right next to the words "Serial Number," on the screenshot someone posted above, that number is completely blank.

I think Avalon hit the nail on the head. I know Fallooza's Logicboard was replaced so that makes sense.

Ohh, I think I know now. I think Apple replaced my wacked up logic board when I sent it in for repairs. Haha. Thanks guys, now I don't have any need to worry. Haha.

This is quite interesting

Just curious, say i have my logic board changed on my ibook and it mysteriously doesnt show the serial number any more, and it gets nicked or lost how can i then proove that ibook is mine? i cant hand over the serial number of the machine and go "its sdfasdft2345q2"
