This is off topic but why? Eclipse is relatively small and there are mirrors all over the world. Seems like overkill for Eclipse. Did he give an explanation for that?

uTorrent for me. And there are plenty of legal torrents all over. Linux distros for one. And Vuze offers a host of legal torrents, as does Vodo.

Yes, actually -- all the mirrors were pretty slow when he demonstrated, so he recommended BitTorrent as a faster alternative. FWIW, I already had it on my MacBook...in fact, most of us in the class already had been using it extensively anyway...

Interesting. The mirrors have always been pretty fast for me and with my own experiences with BitTorrent, I would have figured that it would be worse.

And yes, I can imagine that many Java devs have Eclipse (or at least tried it). It seems to be as close as Java is going to get to a standard IDE for development.

"as close as Java is going to get"?? What more would you want?? And is NetBeans any better? (I use that for PHP, actually, but not Java...)

NetBeans is terrible. It's slow, ugly and offers little to nothing that no other editor/IDE has. Now, granted, I don't program in Java (next to Python, it looks like garbage in my opinion) so I could be way off there but I'm pushing this thread off-topic.
