An ex of mine (don't worry, I'm not here to mope; I find my situation quite amusing, actually!) recently accused me of arrogance simply because I expressed an opinion that disagreed with hers.

She then proceeded to say that the problem with me is "you always think you're right, just like how you won't admit you're wrong now!" I won't go into detail, as what we were disagreeing over wasn't at all interesting, but - suffices to say - it's one of those arbitrary, subjective things where no-one can be right as such, only have an opinion.

Needless to say, she's a bit of a hypocrite & quite full of herself; which are the main reasons we broke-up. I was just wondering if anyone here had any suggestions of witty retorts to burst her ego-bubble the next time she pulls this schtick? I've used a few of my own, but I'm always open to new material

For my purposes as an engineering undergraduate; Windows is respectable (& generally necessary), Linux is admirable (& often useful), OS X is enjoyable (& requires no further justification, although plenty could be given)!

One of the oldest arguments between partners (man/woman, man/man, woman/woman).

Since this is an "ex" (and I'm presuming someone you no longer hang out with)...who the heck cares what she thinks!!! Just walk away!

My 2 cents,

I would, but we're at university together, studying the same Master's Degree, and are even in some of the same study groups; so - unfortunately - it's gonna be a good 3 & 1/2 years before I can "walk away"!

If she thinks she is right, just invite her to prove you wrong. I always like to take this approach because if I'm wrong, I can be correct about the subject from that point forward. If I'm right, I can bust out an "I told you so".

If it's something subjective as you suggest, a terse "OK" usually works well. It shows that you just don't care and want the other person to stop talking.

Girl: Chick flicks are way better than <your_favorite_genre> movies.
Guy: OK

I have to agree. Take the higher road. No need to get petty over something so trivial. Use that energy for something better. ^-^"

I would just ask her the following question:

"Is it a matter of life or death?"

Any answer other than yes would be met with:

"Then why is my opinion so important to you?"

Perhaps she never let go.

There are ways around not having to even talk to her... saying "OK" is a fantastic one!

But IMO don't waste your time and effort on her. Going back and forth on non interesting/important things, NO NO NO...lol

I cut'em loose and never look back..."plenty of fish" my friend
