Name is Scott, I grew up using a Mac, switch to PC in 1998 with Windows 98 all the way through Windows 7. Finally bought a MacBook Air, decided it wasn't enough to run my VM's so I went an bought a MacBook Pro 17" so now I can run my VM's including windows.

I have to say so far, I love the mac, I have had every iphone since the 1st, and bought my first iPad (3) a month ago, and have to say, if not for the BS I have to run for work, I would say so long to M$.

Great to be here, starting over building a rep sucks as I have worked incredible hard at the other 2 forums I use daily, but it will be fun to do.

Great to have you here, Kate. But please note that iOS App Developers may not promote their applications in forum posts. If you'd like to advertise on Mac-Forums, you may do so by way of a paid advertisement (click the "ADVERTISE" link at the top of any forum page).

Liquid and computers don't mix. It might seem simple, but we see an incredible amount of people post here about spills. Keep drinks and other liquids away from your expensive electronics!

Hi, I am hoping to get some sound advice and help.
I run a Black MacBook, a !,67 PowerBook and have a collection of Cubes ranging from a virgin untoched 450, to a 1.2ghz Sonnet. I have 6 in all and am experimenting with the creation of an Intel SuperCube.I have come to the realization that with Apple not supporting anything over a few years old ,so forcing folks with perfectly good machines for example my gorgeous 1.67 15" PowerBook to upgrade , that a PPC Cube no matter how fast just won;t cut it. I could rant for ever on how disgusted I am with the planned obseiesence , but then again when you can pick up a machine for $150 on CraigsList that origionally sold for $2200.
I watch movies on my 23" CinemaDisplay through my PowerBook with a ADC/DVI adapter and the whole rig cost me $200.............................

regards,
London

Welcome "Sketch" and "Londonbob"!

@Londonbob: Multiple Cubes...that's pretty impressive! I have one. They are pretty neat!

@Sketch: Yikes...you converted 200 Windows users to Mac's. You must be REALLY busy!!! Since I'm guessing you didn't always have a 100% success rate (maybe 1 in 10)...which means you must have made your "Macintosh Sales Pitch" to 2000+ people!!!

Probably more than that! I was a Web Operations Manager for a B2B company for 3 years, in that time I converted an entire IT Suite and each member of staff in IT were given MacBook Pro's under my recommendation.

I'm a persuasive person I guess!

Hello folks,

My name is Don, and I'm the happy owner of a brand new iMac Lion. I've owned two other versions of iMac since 1999. The blueberry, and the next generation half egg shell design. Although they all stood out in their own right for the era in which they introduced themselves, I think Apple did a marvelous job in this new flat screen design. Intel processors with quad cord, and much improved graphics and screen real estate make it light years ahead of the previous versions. Its speed and elaquant displays are uniquely Mac, and that's what makes Mac's special; for special people because only a handful of computer users will cough up the money to purchase one over the traditional Gateway, Dell, Acer, etc.

I could have had one of the previous mentioned Windows set ups for half what I paid for this iMac, however I knew that I would not have been satisfied with any thing less. I really like it and can't wait for Mountain Lion to come out this summer. It's true, only a certain type of computer user will take the plunge and purchase a Mac. I don't know what it is, I just know that there is something special about them to have such a loyal die hard following. Mac's are in a class all by themselves.

I'm also looking for a few stable buddies to try out the Face Time, and Messages apps. These are brand new to me and would like to try them out. Please, I'm not into computer dating or the like. I just would like to communicate with like minded Mac users that are polite, stable and just plain old folk. I'm a 56 year old in a current battle with prostate cancer. I just want to chat and make friends. I don't need medical advice, just friendship.

In earlier years I did some amateur html and css web design. However, I've forgotten most of what I knew and have to retrain myself. I purchased a course from Westciv about eight years ago, and when I tried to copy the course material onto my flash drive to load it into the new iMac, the graphics became corrupted somehow rendering the course useless. I don't want to repurchase the same old material so if anybody has any suggestions on learning courses or books on html and css design; chime in.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Don

Hello All. I'm Charlie. The "Pretty" part is because I get tired of being called 'dude' (laughs).

I am trained in IT (mostly in PC & some Linux), and work mostly with PC users. Personally I prefer MAC and like to be conversant on both anyway.

I'm a geek and also a fit, mature and health conscious Buddhist who loves fresh air and a good laugh. , I've seen pretty hardcore RL drama, so by comparison petty forum ego games remind me of toddler spats. Spanking, anyone? But seriously, I'm incredibly grateful for help, love to give it when I can and know enough to keep my mouth shut when I can't.

I mostly use my MAC tools for work stuff, and I run them pretty hard. I work in IT, so beyond using computers to support my hobbies, I prefer not to play on them. In RL I I'm a trained chef in recovery, a knitter and a dabbler in fashion design. I also an egghead reader who needs fresh air activity every day or goes nuts. Video games etc? There just aren't enough hours in the day.

---------------------------------------
My MAC beasts are:

1. An iTouch. 64G, iOS 5. Use it for voice memos, audio books, audio learning, workout music and the occasional pic.

2. An iMAC. 27" monitor, 16G Ram, 2G video, 1T 3.4GHz HD. I use it for research, writing, running Windows VMs for Oracle DB & other Windows work, and all 'serious' computer work. I'm very interested in new learning ops/environments offered by new developments in IT/web, so I also use it for the occasional foray into virtual learning environments like SL etc. (OK, you caught me: I also indulge in virtual building sometimes. Who doesn't love to be creative in a place where the laws of physics don't apply?)

3. An inherited 1st gen MacBook Pro. 4G of RAM, as that's all it will take. (wipes a tear)
The battery is going, and it runs a bit hot, so I use it for casual surfing and storing baby DBs & folders for play stuff. Skype, FB, Ravelry blah, blah blah.

---------------------------------------
Anyway, happy to be here. Thanks in advance to those of you who generously offer your knowledge. Really.

~ Charlie
