These new iMacs are pretty impressive. Your quad-core (8 thread) iMac (32-bit score) is very close to topping my 8-core (16-thread) Mac Pro.

Of course your new iMac's 3.4ghz cpu speed is way faster than my Mac Pro's 2.26ghz cpu speed.

That's one speedy iMac. So what's the deal with your older iMac?...which from the scores is certainly no slowpoke either. You selling it, gifting it to some lucky family member, or keeping it?

The other machine is my MacBook Pro. This is my first iMac. This completes the switchover in this household that started in January.

Yes - really speedy and responsive. I was curious to see how close it would come to your 8-core Pro machine - but it still didn't match up. I posted the 64-bit result as well just so folks would know what to expect.

Just set it up tonight but so far - very happy with it. Love looking at my Aperture images on that screen.

Sorry...I'm getting confused...I thought that your other computer was an iMac...but now I see it's a MacBook Pro. That MacBook Pro has some pretty nice numbers as well!

In fact...your MacBook Pro's score is better than some older Mac Pro's. Pretty cool to have a laptop more powerful than some Mac Pro's (at least the cpu score)!

Yeah...your iMac's 64-bit numbers do exceed my Mac Pro. But then if I had the "paid for" 64-bit version of Geekbench...I guess my numbers would be higher as well. $12.99 for the "full" version of Geekbench is not too bad...I just may get it. Too bad Geekbench doesn't do video/graphics scores!

Yes - I've been very pleased with this MBP - really that's an understatement.

The fact that I now have two really good performing machines is mostly just a happy byproduct of the fact that I made the switch to Mac this year - coincident with the jump to Sandy Bridge. I had the Core Duo MBP initially - but Apple let me exchange it for the Sandy Bridge. I should be pretty well set for machines for a while now. Just waiting for some Thunderbolt drives to show up.

Updated. The one thing that jumps out is the step function performance increase in the MacBookPros - between 2010 and 2011. The iMacs show a more gradual increase in performance. I played with a few plots - but the data pool is still too thin to do anything meaningful.

This is an overall plot of the data - minus Nick's result. I tossed him from the graph as an outlier since he skews the results with that powerful Mac Pro of his.
