What a creative idea! Joanne Ussary bought a used Boeing 727. She paid $2,000.00 for the plane. It cost $4,000.00 to move and $24,000.00 to renovate. (She has a LOT of wood and specialty windows for $24,000! I want her carpenter!)
But not bad for a $30,000.00 investment... The stairs open with a garage door remote and one of the bathrooms is still intact. There is a personal Jacuzzi in the cockpit. The Boeing home is featured as part of a collection of creative conversions. It has a spectacular view! (I wonder how much the land with this view cost!!!) WOW the things people do.
Im with you on this one about her carpenter. They have done a really nice job on it. For a job like that sounds like he/she got ripped off unless there where other benefits haha Dont forget to use the Reputation System if someone has helped you out !!! That cast of LOST could have totally used this lady at the time.
Anyways, it's interesting to see how open the space is, compared to a working jet with overhead compartments and seats, and how she uses the outside of the jet to expand. I just don't know how I'd feel at the thought of that jet coming loose and being torpedoed down a cliff. |

I am always intrigued by alternative soloutions for housing. Too many of us (myself included) are crammed into plain vanilla boxes. Nice to see someone truly thinking outside the box.
Of course, I know everything . . . I just can't remember it all at once.

Are these magical dollars or some sort of currency that I haven't heard of before? Who sells a plane for $2,000 regardless of whether or not it works (there has to be at least $2,000 worth of metal alone)?

Plane junkyard. Believe it or not, they have even cheaper prices! Most of the prices you are used to seeing are those found in catalogs, and advertised deals. The best deals are on planes that can't be flown due to aviation restrictions, even if they are perfectly intact. What they don't tell you is in how good/bad of a shape the plane was in. For what I've seen at 2g's, it would have been pretty bad, even for a salvage.

I'm sure the plane was totally gutted and the remaining metal wouldn't be worth $2,000.
I have a friend who runs a salvage yard. I can't quote current prices, but I remember the value of scrap metal varying between $35-65 a ton IIRC. "Give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others" |
