I saw this in the news feed and I was wondering if anybody has used it. Supposedly, it creates an environment for 3rd Party Tiger Widgets in Panther.

I was not impressed with it. Most of the widgets don't seem to work properly, plus the configurations for the widgets are pretty much non-existent. I tried repairing permissions, uninstall and reinstall of Amnesty, and it still pretty much sucked on Panther. At least that is my opinion. :black: __________________________________________________ Posting and YOU|Forum Community Guidelines|The Apple Product Cycle|Forum Courtesy mac: a waterproof raincoat made of rubberized fabric MAC: a data communication protocol sub-layer, also known as the Media Access Control Mac: a brand name which covers several lines of personal computers designed, developed, and marketed by Apple Inc.

ooo this poped into my mind any of U tried Konfabulator2? It lets U use widgets on both macs and windowz machines. Kinda cool. Since i am using it i found no need to upgrade to tiger.

Tried Konfabulator back before Tiger... It was OK... But I didn't like having all my widgets open... and on my screen... all the time... Plus I didn't really care for the widget selection too much. The other thing was that the widgets were a bit more of a pain to write and program as compared to widgets for dashboard.

Konfabulator Widgets are very different from Tiger Widgets. Tiger Widgets are just like little websites. If you right click on a .wdgt file and click "show package contents" you can see exactly whats in them. Konfabulator widgets require actual programing.
What I never liked about Konfabulator widgets was the huge amount of ram they required. I have a GB, but wasting ~10mb per widget is not worth it to me. That kinda goes with the always on thing. Tiger widgets use less ram, and aren't always on. They also seem like they run a lot more efficiently than Konfab ones. My friend tried Amnesty on his 366Mhz iBook with 128mb Ram (w/ Panther). He said that the widgets worked a lot like the ones in Tiger, but they took an average of 10-15 seconds to open. Graphite, I'm not sure by what you mean as to "you can run either widgets." Because Tiger and Konfab widgets are so different, they can't run each others widgets. |
