New potential malware could open a back door to your Mac

I read this thinking it might be serious, and then I got to the quote... "the actual threat is quite low, as it would require somebody to have physical access to your mac."

The usual AV software company's selling point!

Do not worry about it as the so called Trojan is four years old and has not been seen outside their laboratory.

2004? Even then it was bogus... Yes, Mac users are running UNIX, the most difficult OS to hack. I've not had anti-virus software on mine, or my clients Macs in over a decade, and not a single one has ever gotten a virus of any type. And we're talking literally hundreds of systems.

Truth is, Mac users have no reason to protect themselves from Trojan Horses, Viruses, or Malware. AS opposed to other OS's that are not nearly as secure as UNIX.

What if that somebody with physical access to your Mac is ..... yourself.

( IT ) Security is more about people and their behavior than it is about machines and their settings.

I agree McBie... but if the end user is stupid enough to install code on their machine that isn't from a trusted and vetted source, then said end user deserves whatever they get.

I still love that the article was posted on Ars Technica, usually a super Mac friendly site and you know, not completely full of crap. The fact that the quote is in that article at all though pretty much states that the fact that "for Mac" didn't have to be in the title of that article. Maybe, "hey people, remember to not install code from an untrusted source."
