I posted a ad on craigslist asking if anyone was interested in trading a MBP for my macbook. Someone replied and I'm thinking of going with the trade if his system is right. What should I be looking for to make sure I get what I want out of this? i'm not so worried about his system being dinged up a little bit...as long as it operates well...and the serials are good...is it advisable to trade for a MBP that is over a year old? can anyone help....

The only advice I can give is to remember no one trades down . The guy your thinking about trading with sees your Macbook as an up grade to his MBP so........

Well people only trade down when their current computer is dead/faulty or stolen property. So you'll have to look up the specs of his computer and see if his is a fair deal for yours or just him trying to get a better computer.

You never gave the specs of the MBP you're thinking of trading for.

If it's an older MBP with a one or a combination of the following:

- slower processor
- smaller hard drive
- less ram
- slower graphics hardware

...then trading for your newer MacBook may be an ok trade.

Of course on your end if you get this "older MBP" about the only bonus's you're getting would be:

- a larger screen
- possibly different ports the MacBook may not have, and you want/need

You also didn't mention if there was any cash involved...or if it was a straight-up trade. But at first glance it doesn't look like a good deal.

ok...it's a 15.in 2008 MBP with a year left on Apple Care. serials are good. I spoke with a guy at the apple store about it and he told me that the trade would be justified. no cash is involved in the deal. I really don't use computers for anything extensive. can someone explain the difference between the two because I don't understand (well I do) but I just to be sure about it but I'm checking the specs of both computers and nothing seems to be that different. besides they're only a year apart.
I won't be losing to much on it anyway. I see that 2008 MBP has a 8600 Nvidia GeForce GT processor while the 2009 MB has 9400 and the ram is the same 2gb upgradeable to 4gb and 2008 MBP 200GB while 2009 MB 250....i still have about 170gb left on my HD as it is now...i only surf and listen to music on my MB. I have an external HD so I'm not pressed about the HD space
