I've been a Mac user for almost all of my computing life, and I've come to really love them.

So I'm wondering... What is your favorite component/feature/thing in general about Macs?

Personally, I love the clean hardware design and how they've added so many great features to the operating system without adding any weight whatsoever.

What do you mean "great features[...] without adding any weight whatsoever?"

The clean hardware design thing...ehhh...sure. I've seen a lot of clean PC setups, especially by the people in head-fi and [H]ardforum.

I like how mine requires almost no maintenance (defragging and the like). I love expose (better than Window's alt+tab). I like how iTunes automatically syncs with iPod, though I only like iTunes for it's organization and iPod for it's capacity, neither are great for an audiophile like myself.

There's a ton of similarities between this and Windows machines that the commercials would be embarrassed to admit, there are some things the mac does better, there are some things Windows can do that Mac can't, et cetera.

I hate some of the people that came with it. Too many fanboys that made it their lifestyle. I have a ton of stories I could share about that. I've heard nobody give me any flak when I adminned a thousand person lan party and used a mac.

The fact that the OS doesn't require any virus protection, is intuitive, really easy to use, yet built over a powerful UNIX engine so that one can be a power user in not only OS X but in other more "sophisticated" OSes.

Also the fact that once you really compare prices to what you get, you pay 999 for a baseline apple laptop (macbook) and you don't have to worry about virus protection or extra warranty or paying for someone to take off a bunch of bloatware for you. You buy a Windows PC at a store like best buy, or staples, or wherever, and it's bogged down with unnecessary crap and either you waste your own hours to clean your new machine (which if it were a mac would just be clean). Also, you don't have to pay a yearly subscription fee for anti-virus. So you pay 500 bucks for a laptop, then 70-120 bucks for someone to take the crap off your machine for you and add virus protection, need to take out an insurance policy on your machine because of the flimsy design, which ends up running another couple hundred, and in the end you pay the same amount of money for a machine with an OS that doesn't use the resources available to it nearly as well as an apple machine would.

Mac ftw.

Oh, also the fact that if I grab my aluminum macbook, anywhere i grab the screen to move it forward or back, the whole screen just goes. Most windows (or ubuntu or whatever the heck non-apple hardware) laptops that I try to adjust the screen angle with, if you grab anywhere but the dead center, it bends and feels like it's gonna break. Boo to that.

i like it's ease of use. When i was shopping for a laptop, i was hugely disappointed in the laptops i saw, when compared to the MBP. I love the Magsafe connector. I've seen SO many laptops Destroyed by people tripping over the cords and such... The battery life is amazing, I like the larger multitouch trackpad, and the backlit keyboard is a life saver. I wish it had 1 or 2 more usb ports. as well as a seperate toslink jack. but now i'm being picky.

+1 I agree! In Windows, there's like three different documents folders and all have different documents in them or many different places where your music can be. Mac has one folder for each type of file and you know where to look for what you want.

Expose & Spotlight are my favorite software features.

Backlit keyboard & Trackpad are my favorite hardware features.

I hate all trackpads that are on other laptops.
I have never found a trackpad that is 100% functional besides with Macs.

Plus the folder hierarchy makes sense. Thank you Mac OS. I mean, I used to have to organize my own folders, but I never had to worry about knowing wtf the C, D, E, and what the F drive was. If I wanted to load media from ROM, I popped it in, and voila... the crap appeared on my desktop and I could open it.

If I didn't like how something was ordered, I could make my own file hierarchy. Yeehaw.

2 things.

1. OS X. The whole package, just lovely.

2. The Apple mouse. I know many of them have been bad in the past. But what I like is Apple always thought outside the box with them. Some of their ideas were good and some tanked. But eventually they will get a good mouse and I think the Magic one might be it. Still their willing to take risks for innovation's sake is why I say the Apple mouse here.
