Hey everyone,

I hate to be a bringer of bad news or to even have to talk about unfortunate events in one's life. This time I really must ask for assistance. I guess I should say, guidance, instead. I am faced with a dilemma. I really need pointed in the right direction here.

Two days ago my recently rescued puppy dog was attacked by another dog (German Sheppard) while out and about. The dog basically came out of nowhere, I didn't see him / her coming at all. I don't think Danger did either. Yes, his name is Danger. Unfortunate name to have as of right now. Poor guy didn't know what was happening. Neither did I until it was all over. He didn't even have a chance to defend himself. The other dog came out of the bushes, attacked Danger, and then ran away, it was near instant.

I was able to get Danger to the local animal hospital. He was / is in bad shape. He has chunks taken out of his back, neck, legs, lips. Honestly it looks like someone took a knife to his flesh and cut him, the bites are so clean, it doesn't look natural.

The doctors are worried about nerve damage. Right now he doesn't seem to exhibit any signs of nerve damage but it's a possibility. Mostly to the tissue and not actual spinal injuries, they took xrays and there were no signs of damage to the bones or muscles in his back, just some swelling from being bitten so hard, so his spinal cord is intact and unharmed.

I just recently adopted Danger. He came from an abusive background. I was able to rescue him and he has been such a great pal. I cannot let him suffer any more. If things get too severe there was talk about euthanasia, but I know for a fact things will not come to that. Danger is strong, he has been through it before, he will pull through. I know it. I will not put him down unless it is 100% necessary, if he will not survive any other way. I know he will survive though. He is mighty.

Here is my dilemma.

Paying for all of this. Danger cost me $375 to adopt. This included shots, food for 6 months, everything. I just lost my job three and a half months ago, laid off. Go figure! I just put $535 into my car to get the ball joints, bearing, brakes, alignment, and bushings fixed. I have $350 left in my bank account. I no longer have a savings account because I was getting charged for not having enough money in it. I had to close my savings. Everything has happened at once. My world is basically falling apart. I was at least smart enough to pay rent ahead 4 months. I usually pay for a couple months so I don't have to deal with it every month. Might be a bad idea, but it works for me, usually....

Housing is not an issue, but paying for these vet bills are. I was wondering how some of you would go about gaining the funds to pay for his surgeries and meds. The vet estimated it would cost about $2,200 after this is all said and done. I will not be able to pay for them, I cannot let Danger be put away. He has been through so much, he does not deserve this! I cannot take out a loan because I do not qualify. I talked to the humane society about funding and talked with the hospital about funding options. I do not qualify for any aid at all. I can pay monthly, but I can only cover $350. That will be all of my savings, I will not have money for food or anything.

Does anyone know how I could possibly raise money, somehow? I hate to bring this up. I am just stressing a lot. I don't know what to do. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. I am not posting this just to ask for donations from you all, that's not my intention. I don't want it to sound like I have my hand out. I just need help earning the funds, or finding a way to earn the funds. I have been pawning as much stuff off as I can but it's not bringing in much. I sold off my guitar and amps, etc. I have 1 web affiliate that owes me $80 dollars via paypal. Who knows when that will arrive. That's pretty much it though.

Have any ideas?

I would appreciate any information you could provide.
Thanks.

What is your Paypal address?

You could always put those little jars at like convenience stores with a picture of your dog and a small story what happened. Selling things like you have been doing so far. You can make a website talkinga bout your dog and the accident and how much pain it is in and stuff asking for donations. I'm trying to think of more ideas for you..

Do you know if you might have to have a permit to post donation cans. I haven't ever really done that except for collecting them for charity work. I will definitely look into that though. I didn't even think about doing that.

I have been thinking about putting up a website to raise some funds for him. I just feel so bad asking people for help. I am a giver, so it's really hard for me to come out like that. I really will consider doing the website. Or at least posting a donate link a round with his story.

Right now, I would say Donation | Knoxware.org | Expanding great minds. would be the place I would direct people. That is linked directly to my personal paypal. I may just set it up for Danger for now since it doesn't get a lot of traffic.

Thank you for the ideas. I really appreciate it.

Popped a little donation in your tip jar, Ghostshadow - good luck, man.

Liquid and computers don't mix. It might seem simple, but we see an incredible amount of people post here about spills. Keep drinks and other liquids away from your expensive electronics!

That's a very sad story, Ghostshadow. I understand how it must feel, to have something horrible like that happen to your dog, I've got a little Yorkshire Terrier, and when you love them so much, if something bad happens you just fall apart.

I know I'll be getting myself one of those debit cards soon, I've been planning on upgrading my internet accounts a bit, so if I can figure out paypal, I'd be very happy to send you a little bit.

Hope all goes well for you, and good luck. I'll let you know when I get paypal set up via PM.

I have an update for you all. I visited Danger today. He is doing a bit better. He was a little less groggy from meds today. He is still very sore and stiff. Some of his swelling has gone down. He is looking better, but still needs some more work.

I have set up a donation page / blog. I started a campaign through Pledgie.

Please Help Save Danger Puppy
I appreciate your kind words, it really means a lot to me.

I will try to keep this thread updated as much as possible. I am going to be visiting him every day to see how he's doing.

Thank you very much! I really appreciate it.

I went to see Danger today. He's doing a bit better, he's scabbing over on a couple of his wounds. The vet is going to operate on him on Monday. One of his sutures is kind of leaking, we're going to watch it to make sure it doesn't get infected. He's slowly getting up and being able to move a little. He's still really groggy though. The nurse / assistant said that he's eating, not as normal as he should be, but he's been eating.

The doc said he looks like he'll heal up just fine after a couple more surgeries. Let's hope. I'll keep you all updated.

I updated the site and digg.

Im from Argentina, and paypal is not commonly used here. I have a buck left ages ago and i hope you dont take this as a joke but is all i really got in there. I dont even know how to transfer money to it (its a remanent form and old payment, and what's missing was used to buy some stuff over the internet)

Anyway, its a dollar closer i guess.

PS: adding a link at your sig may also help a bit.

I get paid on Monday, I'll be sure to throw in some money as soon as the check clears. Hope things work out for you, I know what it's like when a pet is at the vet, it really sucks.

I've been down this road somewhat, I know what you feel. I don't know how well I could take it if my little Rosie(my aussie shep.) were to be in this situation, when I got her it was a huge price tag as well, she was about 1,400 from the breeder than another 700 for medical stuff since she had an infection and the breeder allowed to Merle colors to breed so my little dog has some genetic defects as well, oh well I love my little mutant puppy, lol.

I'll drop some funds your way when I can. Best of luck to you and danger puppy.

Thank you very much all. I posted an update today.

Quote:
Danger puppy is doing a little bit better. I went to see him today and things are getting a little better, but we have also hit a fork in the road to his recovery. The doc said he appears to have an infection in a couple of his wounds. The doctor said that Danger might have scraped some of his sutures on the kennel or with his claws. So the vet has trimmed and disinfected his claws and gave him some antibiotics. They are waiting for the swelling to go down a little bit before they try to stitch him back up. He was very groggy today. He is still eating about the same the nurse told me. He was a little wobbly when trying to stand, he looks very tired and worn out. I hope he’s sleeping well. The doc said he should recover fine, he’s just going through some tough times. They are going to keep him for a couple more weeks before he can come home. Please keep him in your mind. Danger needs all the help we can give him.

Another update posted today

Quote:
Went to see danger today. He's doing quite a bit better, he is getting his strength back and he's able to stand up well enough now they have begun to walk him around a bit. He tries to wag his tail but you can tell it hurts him to do so. His skin is pretty tight still, a lot of the swelling has gone down and they were able to put his sutures back in.

The vet talked to me about the bills and paying for his surgeries and visits. Looks like it's going to be about $1,500 instead of the $2,200 I was told of at first. I updated the pledge amount on Pledgie.
