My grandmother was born in 1908, so I found it interesting to get a glimpse of what things were like back then.

average monthly salary for teachers- $27

number of horses- 13.5 million
population of US- 75.9 million
pound of coffee, 25 cents.
theater tickets- 50 cents.
record auto speed- 1 mile in 51 seconds.

yeah my grandmother was born in 1908.... things were way different back then, in some ways better than today.

that dollar figure was the amount it was then for the national debt. you can see the fed govt was already out of control even back then. lol

Yea that national debt was a lot for the value of the dollar! Well its nice to know that we haven't severely screwed up the debt by ourselves.

I have another book of stats. cool stat from that book:

A man with $4,000 in 1776 was considered to be wealthy.

Heck, if I had no debt and $4,000 today I'd feel rich!
