playing avi files on mac with Quicktime
    Hi

i have video tutorials i want to view on my mac.

i have installed perian, flip4mac, and added some codes into my user/library/quicktime folder however I still cannot view my avi files, only hear them.

anyone know how to get quicktime to play avi files?
    without paying for quicktime pro

p.s I know how to play them with other apps and i dont want to convert them to other file assocs etc.

    thanks

It's possible you may have installed conflicting codecs. Just Perian and Flip4Mac alone should be enough for most stuff. If you're okay with not using QuickTime, I'd recommend MPlayer. There is literally nothing it won't play (except realmedia maybe?). That updated GUI and static build was done by anime_layer from the AnimeSuki forums, and it does a great job.

I removed codecs I installed individually. I now have only Divx, Flip4mac and Perian. But still cannot see avi.

According to Perian i need the AVIImporter.component to run avi files.

Anyone know where to get it? cannot find it anywhere myself.

I thought it came with Perian.

DivX conflicts with Perian, which has a much better XviD codec included. AviImporter has for a long time been included in the Perian bundle.
