As eric pointed out, a geek is somebody who is simply really knowledgeable about certain things, whereas a nerd is the stereotypical dork with dark rimmed glasses and a pocket protector (i.e. Steve Urkel).

I'm a geek, I geek out on a lot of stuff, but I am pretty normal socially and do just fine with the ladies.
