Apple prices

I'm in Australia and considering buy an iMac G5, it would be my first Apple product and it appears to me that most dealers cant go much better than retail price. The best price I've seen is $50 below retail.

As the saying goes "retail is for suckers", but is it common to pay much less than retail on Apple products?

Well, here in Europe, the price difference between the Apple Store and local dealers (not Apple shops) are marginal. I think Apple has a very strict price policy. The only price differences we have is the different taxation from one country to another.

Thats true, my local dealer won't discount apple products except for educational/student discounts, but they gave me a $20AUD discount of a $50AUD STM laptop bag after I bought an iBook of them...
