external hd with boot camp

hi there quick question can you use a external hard drive with boot camp ie save mac and windows files or evn partition the external drive to a mac side and a windows side , this would help loads with games , or can some one tell me if any 2.5 laptop drive is compatibale with me macbook :spook:

2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor
4 gb memory, 250 GB hard disk drive
13.3 in TFT,OS X 10.5
