Internet connection problem

I am attempting to connect a G4 with OSX newly installed on it, onto Freeserve.....it seems to suggest that there isn't a modem installed - though as far as I knew I thought they were built-in - I apologise if this is a very obvious issue but would appreciate anyone's thoughts on this...l
