Move files from OS8.0 to Imac G5?

Any folks know how I can move my data files from my old Power Mac 7500/100 with G3 chip and USB and OS8.0 to my new Imac G5 OSX without spending alot of money?

I guess I need to buy some OS9 disks on Ebay and go with USB thumb drive right?

Love my macs but I wish they we a little more backward compatible.

Direct connect the two using an ethernet cable? Otherwise, a USB zip drive or external USB hard disk. Not as cheap as ethernet but you could get the hardware second-hand, maybe eBay.
