Macbook pro has trouble running games

Hi, I'm running windows 7 on a partition and I am trying to run assassin's creed 2 but it lags even on the lowest settings. Also when I use the website 'can you run it' it says my graphics card fails the test, but it passes the graphics card sub catergories like graphics memory.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The graphics adapter in your MBP is an Intel integrated HD 3000. When in OS X it will allocate 512 MB of memory if your machine has 8 GB of system memory installed - which yours does.

Notice I said above when you're in OS X. When in Windows, I'm not sure how much memory gets allocated to the HD 3000. Users have reported problems running graphic intensive games in Windows with the same GPU so I suspect it may not be allocating enough memory from the main memory when running in Windows.

Not that I know of. The discrete graphic controllers don't have that problem because the VRAM is included with the chipset and Windows "sees" that OK. But with the integrated chipsets like yours and others, it seems like Windows just uses the default amount. (256 MB)

Also, the HD 3000 performs well when gaming in OS X, but it's a rather mediocre performer with Windows games. Check out Tom's Hardware site and look up the HD 3000 to see what they say about it. Interesting reading.

Running the same game in OS X would probably surprise you how well it plays when compared to Windows. I know that Windows games are more popular and it seems as though all the good ones are for Windows. But Mac games are starting to rise to the level. I no longer buy Windows games and my iMac has plenty of horse power to run most of them.

Only exception for me is MS Flight Simulator X.
