can i install windows with boot camp to and external drive and what format does it have to be

Zigdog, have you actually done this? Because in my experience Boot Camp Assistant doesn't even look at external drives. I'd imagine with some hacking newer versions of Windows (like 7 and Vista) could be installed on an external, but I'm not entirely certain of that process.

If indeed you've done this, a link to a tutorial or some more information would be greatly appreciated.

Liquid and computers don't mix. It might seem simple, but we see an incredible amount of people post here about spills. Keep drinks and other liquids away from your expensive electronics!
